The Carlisle
The Carlisle, an 1890 iron barque, sank in Bass Strait on August 6, 1890, after hitting an uncharted rock near Crocodile Rock. Traveling from Melbourne to Newcastle in ballast, the 23 crew abandoned ship and survived. The wreck was rediscovered in 2017 by the CSIRO’s research vessel Investigator.
